The late Howard Ballantyne
founded Ballantyne Fuels Ltd. in September 1987. At that time Ian Ross
was the Texaco distributor for New Glasgow and was retiring after being
in business for 36 years. Ian Ross Services Ltd., Bob Koszkulics Fuels
and Underwood Brothers in Pictou amalgamated under Howard Ballantyne to
become the Texaco marketer for all
of Pictou County. As they still are
today, Ted Rogers and Bob Koszkulics became distributors in the upper
towns and Underwood Brothers in the town of Pictou and surrounding area.
In October 1990 Ultramar Ltd purchased Texaco Canada Ltd. With that came
some changes for Ballantyne Fuels Ltd. The biggest change was the look
of our seven red delivery trucks. After carrying the Texaco star and
logo for many years, we were now blue, silver and gold and the Ultramar
Eagle replaced the star. This and the fact that we now were selling
Ultramar products were the only changes.
Howard Ballantyne retired in December 1991 and the company was purchased
by Mike Sullivan.
Today Ballantyne Fuels Ltd. operates much the same as it did in 1987.
The office staff consists of Diane Munroe, Virginia Whynott and Marlene
Sheehan. The company drivers are Jim Conley and Dave Royles. The
distributor drivers are Ed Underwood, Joe Underwood, Bob Koszkulics,
Mark Koszkulics, J.D. Koszkulics, Ted Rogers, David Rogers and Kevin
Rogers.
We operate from our bulk plant on 489 Stewart St. in New Glasgow and our
Pictou office at Underwood Brothers on 11 Front St. We offer automatic
and emergency delivery service, convenient budget plans, local billing,
seven radio equipped delivery trucks and a full line of Ultramar lubes
and greases.
